Did you know? Tigers are the biggest cats on the planet! Which means they need lots of food for energy, and they can't get that all from cake!
The average weight of a tiger is about 700 lbs. They consume about an average of 35-110 pounds of meat at a given time.
Their favorite food is deer and wild boar. Some of their favorite deer species are sambar, chital, swamp deer, hog deer, and sikar deer. Their diet, however, may be diversified. Where possible, tigers also eat buffalo, and other animals like us, such as cows, goats, and sheep but they will also eat monkeys, peafowl, and fish.
Unlike our Tiger, big cats in the wild prefer to eat alone instead of in groups, and some tigers only need to eat once every couple of days, especially if they catch a large animal! And especially unlike our Tiger, a big cat will still share its food with family members, and make sure there is enough to go round, if it has cubs!
Tigers mainly rely on their sense of sight and hearing rather than on smell when hunting. They cautiously stalk their prey from the rear in an attempt to get as close as possible.
Did you know tigers will also eat on wild fruits and berries in order to get plenty minerals and vitamins, just like we have to eat our vegetables! In certain instances, tigers will also eat grass!
We don't have any grass for our Tiger to eat but we do have plenty of yummy things for tea time!
